Subject: Call for actors (guides) for Haunted Trails 2003 Hi, It's that time of year again; the leaves are about to fall, you need to run the furnace in the morning and the air conditioning in the evening, and some fool is asking you to donate your knees, back, and sanity for a good cause. That's right - Haunted Trails 2003 is upon us, that ever-popular creepy fundraiser for Wild Basin Nature Preserve. I'm Guide Wrangler this year and I'm looking for 30 or so able-bodied men and women who enjoy: * hiking * scaring the crap out of people * telling stories, improvising, and acting * controlling small crowds with the aid of a rope and sheer force of will * acting like a responsible adult very occasionally If you're not familiar with Haunted Trails, it's an interactive horror story that takes place on a nature trail (see http://www.haunted-trails.com/modules.php?name=FAQ) with proceeds going to support the Wild Basin nature preserve. It's one part haunted house, one part adventure game, one part interactive theatre, and a whole bunch of fun. The show is 60-90 minutes long, with groups heading out onto the trails from 7pm until 10pm-midnight, depending on the night. Guides are an instrumental part of the show, keeping the guests safe, interested, and focused on the story. I'm looking for people with extemporaneous or improvised storytelling skills and who can spend 3-4 hours a night walking and talking. Run nights are: Friday, 10/17 7pm-10pm (dress rehearsal) Saturday, 10/18 7pm-12am -- Thursday, 10/23 7pm-10pm Friday, 10/24 7pm-12am Saturday, 10/25 7pm-12am -- Thursday, 10/30 7pm-11pm Friday, 10/31 7pm-12am Unlike the static acting roles, the role of guide is flexible, if a bit more demanding. What this means is that while I'd love to have people commit to all the run nights, you don't have to. If you can only come out one weekend, we'd love to have you whenever you're available. I've been working on Haunted trails for about seven years now and I really enjoy it. The people are great, it's for a good cause (the preserve is beautiful!), I get a good workout for a few weekends, and I get to torment the drunk and inattentive. Also, it's a great opportunity to work on new characters -- think of it as almost-solo long-form improv. That's my sales pitch. HT2003 is shaping up to be a great show; we're ahead of schedule and have an excellent theme this year and it promises to be a helluva lot of fun for everyone involved. Let me know if you're interested in volunteering or if you know someone who's interested (recruit your friends!) Thanks much, -- Bob Apthorpe Haunted Trails 2003 Guide Wrangler 512 695-8051
